Manaus (AM) – Warabu Chocolates, a brand that uses inputs from the Amazon in production, was awarded this Wednesday (14), during the Naturaltech 2023 Fair, at Anhembi, in São Paulo. A partner of Sebrae Amazonas, the company overcame strong competitors and won first place in the Naturaltech Award in the food category. The winning product was 54% cocoa chocolate – cumaru, puxuri and guarana.
“We try to convey that the Amazon has its value and can be shown by the explosion of flavor of our chocolate, made by people who live inside the forest and who make a living from extractivism”,
said Warabu founding partner Linda Gabay.
Created by chef and entrepreneur Jorge Neves in 2018, Warabu produces gluten and lactose-free chocolates, made with natural ingredients and that do not involve animal cruelty in the production chain. The brand buys grain produced by family farming using organic practices and is committed to encouraging income generation for traditional populations in the region.
On the initiative of Jorge Neves, who already worked with chocolates and sought to combine flavors with Amazonian fruits, the company’s starting point was the tests carried out at the Center for Incubation and Business Development (CIDE) and then acceleration at Axcell, in Manaus.
Experiences that defined the focus of production on an organic chocolate with international vegan certification.
Among the inputs used in the available flavors are wild cocoa, collected by family farmers in Mocajuba, Pará; organic açaí and coffee, respectively from Urucará and Apuí, in the Amazon.
In addition to the original flavor, the easy-to-understand and aesthetically pleasing chocolate packaging also scored points for the award. In this regard, Warabu had the support of Sebrae for technological marketing consultancy and for internationalization, services subsidized at 70% of the value by the Sebraetec program.
