Chinese chancellor meets Dilma and wants her to hear ‘the voice of the emerging countries’ – 04/21/2023 – Nelson de Sá

With coverage by the Xinhua news agency and the CGTN channel (video below), among others, the Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with the president of the New Development Bank (NDB, the Bank of the BRICS), Dilma Rousseff, on Friday in Shanghai .

According to the agency, he stated that “the NDB represents the trend of collective ascension of emerging countries” and expressed “the hope and confidence that the NDB will listen to the voice of developing countries”.

He said he believed the bank would make “a great contribution to improving global governance and establishing a fairer international financial order.” And that, “as the host country of the bank, China is ready to strengthen cooperation with the NDB and provide support and assistance to Dilma for the operation”.

The former president of Brazil also met with the mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zhen, and later spoke at the Lanting Forum. In the statement of Jiefang, a newspaper linked to the CP of Shanghai, “Dilma said that they imposed a false modernization in Latin America”, which was “based on colonialism”.

“The modernization proposed by China is entirely new and attaches great importance to high-quality development,” Rousseff said. “China is not just a model, but a path for developing countries.”

In his speech, covered by Shine (Shanghai Daily), South China Morning Post, Bloomberg and others, Qin Gang “defended China’s growth model” which “creates opportunities for the world” and shows that “modernization is not a privilege for few countries”.
