Check out where to eat “different” chocolates in Curitiba

Every day is chocolate day! But this Friday, July 7th, the whole world celebrates this delicious unanimity. To celebrate World Chocolate Day, the Good Gourmet made a selection of chocolatiers in Curitiba that think “outside the box”, flee from traditional models and transform the consumption of chocolate into almost exclusive sensorial experiences that go far beyond the palate.

Tropical Utopia

Have you ever eaten avant-garde chocolate? Idealized by the chef chocolatier Franco-Swiss Julian Caron Lys, Utopia Tropical is an experimental chocolate factory in the heart of Curitiba. Located at the entrance to the urban refuge SFCO 179 – a space that brings together specialty coffees, gastronomy and an event area in a historic house with a garden – the chocolate shop draws the attention of passersby on the sidewalk, as it is possible to observe all the work through the window. Four chocolate bars bean to bar produced at the factory are fixed on the menu – Inclusions (edition that uses matcha), Intense, White and Ao Leite –, but new experiments are always in progress. The store also offers coffees and a menu of drinks made with the house’s chocolate.

BlendCacao

That chocolate that, before eating, we stop and admire! BlendCacao thinks about its bonbons, bars and chips with the care of someone who designs contemporary jewelry. Made with Belgian chocolate, the brand’s bonbons have exclusive decorations, with flavors ranging from classic salted caramel to pepper jelly and yuzu. The bulk bars, to be consumed in chips, are available in flavors such as dark chocolate with cashew nuts and fleur de sel, to more unusual ones such as orange, pistachio and almond with white chocolate. To eat (also!) with your eyes!

Chaos Original Original Chocolate

When researching chocolate for her master’s degree in industrial biotechnology in the agro-food area, biomedical scientist Kassiany Dalmora entered a path of no return. In 2018, she started making her own almond-to-bar chocolate (bean to bar), in an artisanal way, valuing the raw material and its producers. To taste its chocolates, you must pay attention: Caos’ production consists of batches with numbered units of chocolate bars (about 70 units), with a minimum content of 69% cocoa. A beautiful naturally dyed white chocolate bar is currently available in seven colors (and seven flavors!), in honor of LGBTQIAP+ pride month: turmeric (yellow), beetroot (purple), yerba mate (green), edible flower clitoria (blue), sweet paprika (red), annatto (orange), brown (mixed white chocolate with 100% chocolate) and black (cocoa nibs).

Nuscaa Chocolate

The micro chocolate factory bean to bar by food engineer Jessica Scheeren does not open every day, does not have delivery and is closed until the 13th of July due to holidays. But wait, there’s a reason for that: Nuscaa is literally a one-woman endeavor, Jessica is responsible for all processes – from choosing the cocoa beans to marketing the products. Production is small and very limited, but it’s worth going after! All made with 100% Brazilian cocoa, Nuscaa’s menu has four fixed chocolate bars: Intense Milk Chocolate 50%, Milk Chocolate 44%, Caramelized White Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs and Flor de Sal, and Intense Chocolate 70%. In addition to the bars, each week Jessica creates different flavors of chocolate slabs that are sold in chips and by weight. The combinations are the most diverse, such as caramelized white with paçoquinha, white with corn and milk with bananas. Those who are lucky and arrive at the store when the factory is in production can follow the process and enter the universe of this tasty delicacy.

Cuttlefish OZ

If you have trouble making choices, set aside a little extra time when you go to Choco Oz. The innovative Curitiba-based chocolate shop, founded in 2017, offers a line of filled chocolate bars in its stores made up of more than 80 flavors, including great Brazilian favorites, such as paçoca, dulce de leche in the pan, cocada, brigadeiro and cajuzinho. But it’s not just the fillings that catch your stomach for the affective memories: the retro design of the neat packaging also provides a nostalgic trip and makes the products creative options for gifting. Bonbons, truffles, alfajores and snacks are also part of the brand’s product line.
