The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), foresees a concentrated effort in the plenary of the House this week to try to approve the tax reform until Friday (7).
The idea is that, at least, the first vote on the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) of the new tax system to date.
Lira will still evaluate, throughout the week, whether it will be possible to also complete the second vote in the week. As it is a PEC, the tax reform needs to go through two rounds of voting in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies – and then goes to the Senate.
“Come on, first [tentar] the first round. If it works, we can move forward [para o segundo turno]”, I told Sheet the President of the Chamber.
To accelerate the articulations, Lira gathered leaders in Brasília on Sunday (2). Despite the plan to put the reform to a vote this week, the mayor and the government are still working behind the scenes to try to reduce resistance to the reformulation of the tax system in the country.
Lira predicts more conversations with governors this week. At the end of last week, for example, the mayor met with the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro (PL), after he criticized the Federative Council – a group formed by states and municipalities to manage the collection of resulting taxes of the reform.
In an interview with Sheetthe rapporteur for the tax reform in the Chamber, deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), said that the articulation with governors will serve to mitigate doubts and build a solution for the debate.
“The expectation is that from this construction we can actually have a mobilization of everyone, not only from the South and Southeast, but also from the Northeast, from the North, so that we can actually approve the reform”, declared the deputy , ally of Lira.
To speed up the votes in the plenary, Lira suspended, during that week, meetings of the Chamber’s commissions, in addition to the CPIs installed in the House.
