The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday (23) Provisional Measure 1172/23, which readjusts the minimum wage and expands the range of exemption from the Income Tax table. There were 439 votes in favor, one against and one abstention. The MP, which expires next Monday (28), goes to the Senate for consideration.
The text was edited by the May 1st government and increased the minimum wage from R$1,302 to R$1,320. The rapporteur for the matter in the joint committee, deputy Merlong Solano (PT-PI), incorporated the readjustment of the Individual Income Tax (IRPF) exemption range into the provisional measure.
The proposal provides for exemption from income tax for those who earn up to two monthly minimum wages (R$ 2,640). Currently, exemption is possible for those who earn up to R$ 1,903. After an agreement between parliamentarians, taxation on income from investments abroad, trust or offshore funds was excluded from the text by means of a highlight in plenary and should be addressed in a bill.
Luiz Lima (PL-RJ) voted against the MP, but he recanted and said he had voted by mistake. Deputy Alex Santana (Republicanos-BA) was the only one to abstain from voting.
