Diplomatic representatives took advantage of the meeting in Colombia that dealt with the democratic transition in Venezuela to hold parallel meetings on strategic matters. The head of the Special Advisory Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Celso Amorim, discussed the war between Ukraine and Russia together with European and North American diplomatic representatives. At the table with Amorim were: the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell; US Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer; and White House Special Assistant Juan Gonzalez. The meeting took place in Colombia, where representatives of different nations met to discuss the process of democratic transition in Venezuela. The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, was responsible for receiving all the diplomatic representatives and mediating the meetings. Petro and Amorim even held a bilateral meeting, alone, to address issues such as regional integration and cooperation in the Amazon. Amorim also took advantage of his trip to Colombia to visit the country’s former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Juan Manuel Santos.
