Tadeu Schmidt’s touch on Gabriel and Griphao in “Big Brother Brasil 23” about the attitudes of a toxic relationship was praised on social networks. In addition, famous actresses who are friends with Griphao have spoken out to defend her.

Let’s go, beautiful “, said Pâmela Tomé in a sequence of stories on Instagram when she shared a video of Gabriel being rude to Bruna Griphao at “BBB 23”.

Bruna’s team shared, as did Agatha Moreira, a text by psychoanalyst Manuela Xavier talking about abusive relationships (read at the end of this text). The confinement administrators also gave an official position:

“In no context is it possible to hear rude and aggressive speech from another person. Unfortunately, Bruna cannot see that she is being treated this way in several situations. We, as a team, family and friends, repudiate this type of behavior. We hope that our Rino (Bruna’s nickname) follow your individual game and shine again like before”.

Even a strong woman manages to be silenced. What is very interesting is that You can see that there are other friends who touch… I am very, very much the Bruna team, I am here cheering because I think she will have a light and shine again because she was shining in the beginning”, said the actress.

Before the show started on TV, Lexa wrote a tweet criticizing Gabriel’s actions.

“The way in which Gabriel acts with Bruna is inadmissible”, said Lexa, who later spoke again: “I found Tadeu’s speech extremely necessary”.

Other celebrities also praised the reality show host’s speech.

Bruna and Gabriel: about a new structure of abuse

When we talk about an abusive relationship, an imagery automatically comes to mind: a fragile, dependent and silent woman and a powerful, strong, virile and violent man. This stigma is extremely harmful, because it means that many women who are not “fragile” or dependent do not see themselves as living in an abusive relationship, because they do not have a relationship with a man who says “my wife doesn’t do that”. This is the case we are seeing at the BBB.

Bruna is far from being the beautiful, demure and homely type. She appears to be a free, strong, fearless woman who says what she wants.

And Gabriel, in turn, is far from performing the typical macho. He doesn’t speak loudly, has a sweet voice, speaks calmly and slowly and doesn’t raise his voice.

What’s the big trap then? Although Bruna doesn’t lie to Gabriel — she curses, responds sharply, and walks away; he makes her submit to him. And that’s exactly the trap that many powerful and empowered women live in: it’s because they react to the abuse they experience that they think they’re not being abused. However, if you have to fight your partner all the time, you are not living a relationship, but a battle.

Without realizing it, Bruna was sucked in by Gabriel. She is a leader who is more concerned with protecting a man who has her as a priority neither in the game nor in life; she is a woman who is not realizing how the game of passion makes her vulnerable. Gabriel, quickly raised to heartthrob even without the slightest charisma, with his delusional self-esteem, does not understand that he needs Bruna more than she needs him. He deliriously relies on Anitta’s support and identification with Prior; which makes him assume a bankrupt position of winner only in his poor projections.

From the height of a conviction that only masculinity confers, Gabriel is bothered by Bruna’s expansive manner, but does not break up with her. Contradictory? Do not. Control strategy. Weak men parasitize strong women. That’s why Gabriel thinks that Anitta’s name can give him permanence in the game; just as he thinks Bruna can benefit him.

But, so that it doesn’t seem like he needs her, he needs to diminish her, embarrass her, restrict her, to use a word from Bruna herself. And so, suddenly, Bruna herself is led to think that she is the one who needs him, when in fact it is the opposite. That’s the pitfall of free riding: beware of men who make you emotionally work for them.

What we see on the BBB happens every day with us, with our friends, with the women we meet. Amazing women being erased by average men. Bruna is being warned by everyone of the toxicity and danger of her relationship with Gabriel, and although she knows it, she can’t leave because she feels responsible for him. Not only is she losing her strength and light in the game; but also powerful alliances and also friendships. And isn’t that how we look when we live in an abusive relationship? completely isolated?

The BBB is a reflection of real life and we need to understand that the dynamics of abuse changes and modernizes. Just because he doesn’t yell at you doesn’t mean he isn’t abusive. It’s not because you react in the same tone that he stops being abusive. If it limits you, if it restricts you, if it mistreats you, if it pulls you by the shoulders, if it embarrasses you, if it isolates you: it is not love, it is abuse.
