Carnaval: app helps you set up a meeting point with friends – 02/19/2023 – Tech

With the words “boil”, “motivated” and “heavens”, the university student from Minas Gerais Vitor Mafra was able to set up a meeting point with friends at Praça Sete de Setembro, in Belo Horizonte. The reference was the Obelisk monument, better known as the lollipop — the What3Words application allowed marking which side of the work was the right one.
Very useful for revelers to find their way around Carnival, this British mobile program divides the map of the globe into squares with sides of three meters and associates three unique words to each of them. So anyone can search terms to find that exact location.
The accuracy of the application is greater, for example, than the real-time location of WhatsApp, based on GPS, which delivers an area of about 10 square meters, when the internet connection is good — it can be more than 100 m², with a signal precarious.
The usefulness of What3Words was demonstrated this Saturday night (18) by British firefighters, who rescued a man buried in the mud with the help of the application.
Mafra himself, however, issues a warning: it is necessary to take precautions to spend the most popular party in the country without losing your cell phone, whether due to theft or carelessness. A Sheet prepared this guide to reduce the risks of those who want to take their smartphone outside this holiday season.
How to use
Download the What3Words app from the Play Store for Android users or the App Store for iPhone owners.
Select your preferred language and grant your location access permission to the app. It is necessary to register with an email or Facebook account and agree with the application’s usage policies.
The application itself states that it was created because traditional addresses do not always indicate locations properly.
Now with the map open, just click on the square that coincides with your position on the map — the application will indicate the three words associated with that area. Then send them to colleagues to mark a point of reference.
If you want to find someone, you just need to search for the words entered in the search field at the top of the screen.
