Folia to the bovine rhythm will have 15 attractions, divided between the two days of festivities
Manaus (AM) — In 2023, Carnaboi, a traditional carnival revelry whose rhythm is the boi-bumbá tune, gains a new dimension and more visibility, marking the beginning of the program that precedes the Parintins Folk Festival. The bovine revelry will be held on the 25th and 26th of February at the Sambódromo, from 7pm to 3am. There will be 15 attractions, divided between the two days of the party.
In all, there will be eight attractions on the 25th (Saturday), including lifters David Assayag and Patrick Araújo; and seven attractions on the 26th (Sunday), with shows by the official presenters of Caprichoso and Garantido, Edmundo Oran and Israel Paulain.
According to the secretary of culture, Marcos Apolo Muniz, the bovine revelry gains more visibility, as it is held on the weekend after the Momesca court, and marks the beginning of the Parintins Folklore Festival program.
“On this occasion, we will publicize the Parintins Festival and the bumbás rehearsals, which take place on Saturdays at the Sambódromo, as well as the dates of the events there in Parintins, organized by the oxen Caprichoso and Garantido”,
reveals the secretary, anticipating expectations for the folk festival on Tupinambarana Island.
The revelry to the rhythm of the ox-bumbá is entitled to a pre-season. This Sunday (12), on Avenida do Carnaval do Povão, located at Praça Mindu Norte, in the Novo Aleixo neighborhood, the rhythm of “two for there and two for here” will begin, with the opening of “Esquenta do Carnaboi ”. The opening will be attended by all the artists from Carnaboi, plus dance groups and organized supporters from both bumbás.
After opening in Novo Aleixo, “Esquenta do Carnaboi” will be held from February 13 to 22, in Parque Largo do Mestre Chico, on Praça 14 de Janeiro, in the South Zone of Manaus. At the venue, from 7 pm until midnight, the artists perform with the best tunes by the Caprichoso and Garantido oxen. More than 30 attractions will warm up the public for Carnaboi and for the bovine season of bumbas trials in Manaus.
The new dimension of Carnaboi responds to a request from the boi-bumbá artists themselves, who noted that the party was rivaling other carnival revelries.
“It will certainly be a great experience. Governor Wilson Lima has already given us guidance on how to treat the event, also understanding the importance of this festival for publicizing our state; and how much it adds value and generates work and income for so many people”,
points out secretary Marcos Apolo.
