The president of CARF (Administrative Council of Tax Appeals), Carlos Higino Ribeiro de Alencar, suspended the body’s trial sessions scheduled for next week.
In an ordinance published this Friday (3), Alencar overturned the sessions of the ordinary classes of the 1st section, the extraordinary classes of the 3rd section and the 3rd class of the Superior Chamber.
On the agenda of these groups were tax cases involving companies such as Petrobras, BRF, Santander, Ford, Ambev, among others.
The suspension comes at a time of pressure from large companies that question in court the return of the casting vote, a mechanism that returns to the government the tie-breaking vote in the dispute with the Federal Revenue in Carf.
The companies ask that the sessions be suspended until Congress evaluates the provisional measure that established the return of the casting vote. This week, Carf used the casting vote in several cases, one of them involving Petrobras, which had a tax pending of R$ 5.7 billion.
