Capital with the highest vaccination coverage in 2022, Manaus remains in the top 3 in 2023

Manaus (AM) – With a coverage rate of 79.91%, Manaus was elected the capital with the highest vaccination coverage in 2022, according to Datas SUS. Registering a higher percentage than other regions of the country, the capital of Amazonas had 80.48% of the population with the complete vaccination cycle, according to data from the Covid-19 vaccinometer, developed by the City of Manaus.

In relation to this year, partial data from DataSUS, updated until the month of May, projects Manaus to still be among the three capitals with the highest vaccination coverage, with a percentage of 53.91%, alongside Curitiba (59.31%) and Brasília (56.54%).

The information was released by the Public Leadership Center, which explained that the vaccination coverage rate considers the percentage of the number of doses of vaccines administered, divided by the target population of that municipality.

In the non-profit organization’s Competitiveness Ranking of Municipalities, which reiterates DataSUS figures released last June, the capital of Amazonas appears ahead of Brasília (75.04%) and Belo Horizonte (73.23%).

According to the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, the advance in vaccination coverage reflects the commitment to health made at the beginning of municipal management, in 2021, in light of the crisis in the area resulting from Covid-19.

“That time of the pandemic gave us the opportunity to go into the field, visit health units and motivate our employees. Thanks to this, today we have a different reality, we are a reference in basic healthcare in Brazil, with the best basic healthcare employees in the country”,

says the mayor.

The municipal secretary of Health, Shádia Fraxe, points out that the positive vaccination data in Manaus are the result of actions and projects to strengthen basic health under the David Almeida administration.

“Over the last three years, the city hall has invested in the revitalization of basic units and in the development of health professionals, thus contributing to improving our services and bringing quality assistance to an increasingly larger population”, he declares.

Semsa has also been working to mobilize the population in favor of vaccination updates. An example of this was the “D-Day” of influenza vaccination and multi-vaccination, held on 25/11, which saw 35 thousand people immunized against the flu and with vaccines from the basic calendar in 167 vaccination rooms in the basic network. The actions continue until the 15th, aimed at people from 18 priority groups for immunization against influenza, and for children and adolescents aged 0 to 14.

Numbers

In its fourth edition, the CLP Municipalities Competitiveness Ranking was released on Tuesday (5), bringing 65 indicators, considered fundamental for promoting competitiveness and improving public management in Brazilian cities. Among them, data on access to health and education, fiscal sustainability, environment, innovation and economic dynamism, among others.

In the Vaccination Coverage indicator, the ranking numbers represent an average of the population’s vaccination coverage rates, considering the total of last doses (complete coverage) for the set of immunization agents defined by the National Immunization Program (PNI). The coverage rate for each vaccine corresponds to the ratio between the total doses applied of the indicated vaccine dose (1st, 2nd, 3rd dose or single dose, depending on the vaccine) and the target population.

The percentages are calculated by the Ministry of Health and can be consulted in the Health Information service (Tabnet), from DataSUS.
