Manaus (AM) – Cancer patients assisted by the Social Service of the State Control Center for Oncology Foundation (FCecon) can count on guidance on social security, assistance and reception benefits. The sector of the unit linked to the State Health Secretariat (SES-AM) performed 30,000 procedures in 2022.
FCecon’s social workers receive and carry out a social interview with all patients who seek the sector, where professionals perform a qualified listening, through dialogue, to establish a relationship with the user, with the aim of knowing their social and economic reality .
patient’s rights
According to FCecon Social Service manager, social worker Keyth Bentes, one of the main demands presented by users is about the rights of cancer patients, such as benefits.
The manager points out that patients receive the necessary information and are forwarded to the bodies and secretariats responsible for the benefits.
“We advise on social security benefits for permanent or temporary disability, which is a very big demand, and on assistance benefits, including the Benefit of Continued Provision (BPC)”, explains Bentes.
Another constant activity in the sector is patient guidance on free public transport fares for those undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, guaranteed by municipal law.
Other guidelines relate to income tax exemption, withdrawal from the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) and PIS/Pasep.
Partnerships
FCecon’s Social Service works in partnership with Civil Society Organizations (OSCs) that work in the cause of cancer, such as the Amazonian League Against Cancer (Lacc), the Women’s Network to Combat Cancer in Amazonas (RFCC-AM), the das Marias and the Assistance Group for Children with Cancer (Gacc).
The organizations support patients, each with their own projects, and help with transportation, food baskets and even housing during treatment, following criteria established by the organizations themselves.
The Social Service performs the screening and referral of cancer patients to the CSOs, as well as maintaining contact with municipal representations.
“Many of our patients are from municipalities in the interior, and most cities have municipal representations, which help patients during their stay outside their municipalities. We have this contact with the representations, in order to help patients to receive support and reception”, points out Bentes.
Donation
FCecon’s Social Service also receives donations made by individuals, churches and other institutions, and forwards them to patients. Items such as hygiene kits are useful for vulnerable patients.
Service
Service in the sector takes place from Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 6 pm, at the FCecon Ambulatory. No need to schedule an appointment. Simply show up at the location and present the FCecon patient card. In addition to outpatient care, the Social Service provides bedside care in the wards.
