The president of the Central Bank (BC), Roberto Campos Neto, offered to go to the Senate and Chamber to explain the monetary policy adopted by his administration, says federal deputy Evair Vieira de Melo (PP-ES) to People’s Gazette.
Quoted to assume the leadership of the Minority in the Chamber, Evair spoke with Campos Neto and heard from the president of the monetary authority the disposition to go to the two legislative Houses. “He called me and said he will go to CAE [Comissão de Assuntos Econômicos, do Senado] and, in a continuous act, wants to come to the Chamber”, he says.
Campos Neto himself got in touch with senators and was willing to go to the CAE after the installation of the collegiate, around the beginning of March. As per protocol, the Senate will invite the President of the Central Bank, who will be immediately accepted. The idea is to do the same in the Chamber, where there is even a call request from deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) for him to attend the plenary.
For having offered to attend, Evair explains that the idea is to formalize a protocol request of invitation to Campos Neto so that he speaks in some permanent committee. “Let’s just set the date, but he will come here [na Câmara]”, says the deputy, who also wants the presence of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, to clarify the economic policy of the federal government and the criticism of the BC’s monetary policy.
As informed by People’s Gazette, the opposition to Lula wants Haddad summoned to provide clarifications in the same way that the governing base acted to pressure Campos Neto. “For Haddad, I’m going to present a summons request, the text is ready, I’m just waiting for the commissions to be installed”, says Evair. “I imagine that the government will negotiate to transform [a convocação] in invitation. Haddad will have to speak for Lula and clarify the lines about Roberto”, he adds.
