In the story, set in the 1930s and 1940s, and written by Duca Rachid and Júlio Fischer, the actress plays the protagonist Maria Elisa Rubião, known as Marê. She is the only daughter of Leonel Rubião (Paulo Gorgulho). Widowed, he married Gilda (Mariana Ximenes). Back in Águas de São Jacinto, Leonel insists on dictating her destiny, wanting to marry her to Gaspar (Thiago Lacerda), son of the mayor of the city, Anselmo (Paulo Betti). But Marê’s plans are different: she is in love and wants to marry Orlando (Diogo Almeida), a doctor she met in São Paulo. From this love, Marcelino (Levi Asaf) will be born, who, because of Gilda’s trick, will be taken away from his mother on the day of his birth.
