Camex eliminates import taxes on six products

The Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) temporarily zeroed the import tax on six products this Friday (3/10). The measure came into effect, as of Resolution Gecex nº 453/2023, published in the Official Gazette of the Union, with the objective of equating situations of internal shortage.
Among the exemption products are: two types of steel sheets; two types of aluminum sheet; wrist models of apparatus for measuring blood pressure and pulse rate; in addition to radar antennas, with specific quotas for each of the items.
The measure was announced by the vice-president and holder of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin. “By zeroing the import tax, which varied between 12% and 16%, the MDIC provides industry with savings for the acquisition of these items — especially industries that produce high value-added items, in addition to medical products — and directly benefits the final consumer”, quoted Alckmin.
The zero tariff for these six products is valid until March 9, 2024. The decision may be renewed, if there is a manifestation to Camex, at an opportune moment, by the economic sectors or agents involved.
