Caixa charges Pedro Guimarães R$45,000 for cell phones – 05/18/2023 – Market

Caixa Econômica Federal filed a lawsuit against former president Pedro Guimarães for him to return six cell phones purchased by the bank.

If Guimarães does not return the equipment, the financial institution wants BRL 45,000, an amount calculated from the invoices referring to purchases of iPhone model equipment.

Bank sources say that it will not be possible to return the cell phones because they were broken in Guimarães’ rages.

The ex-president’s lawyer, José Luis Oliveira Lima, classified Caixa’s action as “yet another political move by the current management, which attacks the excellent management of Pedro Guimarães at the head of the institution”.

Caixa, on the other hand, informed that the devices, “made available to Mr. Pedro Guimarães for the development of his activities, while in the exercise of the presidency of Caixa”, were not returned when he left the institution.

“If it is not possible to return the equipment, payment of the amount corresponding to the reimbursement of the amounts due is required, which, according to the respective invoices, is around R$ 45 thousand”, informed the bank.

Guimarães commanded Caixa during most of the management of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with whom he was close, and was only exonerated after allegations of sexual and moral harassment became public.

Witnesses heard by the MPT (Ministério Público do Trabalho) reported episodes in which cell phones and televisions were destroyed. Caixa informed the body that the functional devices, of mandatory use, were the iPhone 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max models.

“Witness 01 said that when the ex-president gets angry he destroys a cell phone, throws a cell phone at the person’s foot, destroys a TV, destroys a computer”, says an excerpt from the MPT investigation.

“Witness 12 said that right at the beginning of the administration, with more or less four months, the former president received the corporate cell phone, was dissatisfied and threw it at the wall, and the device broke all over; that the deponent believes that the device was a Iphone.”

In April, Caixa closed an agreement with the MPT in which it committed to pay R$ 10 million to close the case in the labor sphere. On the occasion, the president, Rita Serrano, said that the bank wants to collect the amounts from Guimarães.

“Caixa will pay, comply, of course, it is a determination of the Labor Court, but Caixa will file a claim for reimbursement of these amounts against the former president of Caixa because obviously he was responsible for this situation”, he said. .

“It is only fair that he reimburse Caixa for the fines now that Caixa is paying for these harassment actions proven by the Ministry [Público] do Trabalho”, she continued at a company event last month.

In the note sent to the report on the lawsuit referring to the iPhones, Guimarães’ lawyer also stated that Caixa closed the agreement to “harm the former president politically”.

“Caixa made a spontaneous agreement, precisely to harm the former president politically, so much so that the judge responsible for the action recognized that Pedro Guimarães could not appear as a defendant and declared the action extinct in relation to him. Pedro Guimarães is a victim of the political game heated in our country.”

With the signing of the agreement with the MPT, Caixa escaped paying an indemnity of R$ 305 million for collective moral damages. The bank, however, is still facing other processes from the time of Pedro Guimarães.

The public company was also ordered to pay BRL 3.5 million for the 2021 episode in which the former president coerced employees to do push-ups. The lawsuit was filed by the Bank Workers Union of São Paulo, Osasco and Region.

The former president of Caixa is also accused of sexual harassment and sexual harassment. The case is confidential. His defense denies committing crimes and says he trusts justice.
