Caged: Brazil generates more than 130 thousand new jobs in November

Last month, Brazil had a positive balance of 130,097 formal jobs, as announced this Thursday (28) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. In November, there were 1,866,752 admissions and 1,736,655 dismissals, according to data from Novo Caged, the General Register of Employed and Unemployed.

Between January and November, 1,914,467 jobs were created in the country. The states with the highest balance in 2023 were São Paulo (551,172 more jobs, with growth of 4.2%), Minas Gerais (187,866 more jobs) and Rio de Janeiro (165,701 more).

So far this year, the biggest growth in formal employment has occurred in the services sector, with a balance of 1,067,218 formal jobs (which represented 59.8% of the result).

The government pointed out that between January and November there is emphasis on information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative services activities. Other positive results from 2023 can be accounted for work in public administration, defense, social security, education, human health and social services.

“We have a very positive view of this result compared to what was expected at the end of last year and beginning of the year. All economic analysts assessed that we would go through great difficulty”,

assessed the executive secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Francisco Macena, in a press conference.

He considered that, among the difficulties imposed on the job market, is the high interest rate practiced in the country. However, he considered that the complementary economic measures presented by the Ministry of Finance and public investments offer a positive estimate for the increase in job vacancies.

“Our expectation is that, next year, we will have a virtuous circle not only of formal jobs, but also of income”. He commented that the increase in the minimum wage should also impact the economy and create more opportunities.

Commerce and services

The majority of formal jobs were recorded in the services sector (92,620) and commerce (88,706). As a result, the total stock recovered for Caged was 44,358,892 formal jobs.

In the services sector, the highlight of the month, there were more job opportunities in the areas of information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative activities.

The second largest generation, in commerce, more vacancies opened in the retail sector of clothing and accessories, general merchandise, with a predominance of food products and supermarkets, in addition to footwear retailers.

According to a government analysis, the seasonal impact brought a drop in formal employment in sectors such as industry, with 12,911 fewer jobs. Civil construction also fell, with 17,300 fewer formal jobs. Francisco Macena assessed that the industry is going through difficulties, but the government, according to him, has been working with modernization plans, investments and subsidies to recover the sector.

“Expectations for next year are very positive because Copom [Comitê de Política Monetária] has signaled a reduction in interest rates, which allows for more investments. In particular, in the civil construction sector, with technological renewal, investment with the PAC [Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento] It will greatly boost job creation in the country,”

said the secretary.

For him, inspection to combat informality can also generate new positive results.

Among the states, the federation units with the highest balance in November were São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul.

In the month of November, there was a positive balance of jobs for both women (95,356 more jobs) and men (34,732 more jobs).

There was also an increase in vacancies for people with disabilities, with a positive balance of 1,344 for this group.

“We held sectoral meetings to raise awareness about compliance not only with quotas, but with the efficiency and effectiveness of hiring people with disabilities. We are working on regulations and we believe this will boost the hiring of not only young people, but also people with disabilities,”

said the executive secretary of the MTE.

Furthermore, there was a positive balance for brown people (78,122 more), white people (49,412), black people (23,472 more), yellow people (15,762 more) and indigenous people (1,336 more).
