Caged: Brazil creates 241,785 formal jobs in February – 03/29/2023 – Market

Brazil opened 241,785 formal job openings in February, according to the Caged (General Register of Employed and Unemployed), released this Wednesday by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

Last month’s result comes from the record of 1.95 million admissions and 1.70 million dismissals and was above expectations. A survey by the Reuters agency pointed to the expectation of creating 161,000 jobs.

Compared to February of the previous year, the number of admissions dropped by 6.7%, while dismissals dropped by 1.7%. Compared to January, admissions in February were 2.7% higher and dismissals dropped by 5.8%.

Of these 241,800 vacancies, 77,300 are atypical (apprentice, intermittent, temporary workers and those working up to 30 hours a week).

The largest number of vacancies (152.2 thousand) were for jobs with a salary range of 1 to 1.5 minimum wages and for workers with complete secondary education (146.1 thousand).

The data refer only to vacancies with a formal contract, according to information provided by the companies. Caged does not show data from the informal market, as does the Pnad (National Household Sample Survey) Continuous, by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).

The services sector led the generation of jobs in the period, with the creation of 164,200 jobs, followed by general industry, with 40,380 jobs.

The construction sector, with 22,246 jobs created, and agriculture, with 16,284, come next. Only the trade sector recorded a negative balance, with a loss of 1,325 jobs.

The five regions of the country had an increase in formal jobs. The average salary for admissions in February was BRL 1,978.12 — a decrease of 2.47% compared to the previous month, or BRL 54.14 less.

São Paulo (65.4 thousand), Minas Gerais (26.9 thousand) and Paraná (24.1 thousand) were the states with the highest balance in the period. The smaller ones stayed with Amapá (139), Alagoas (160) and Roraima (220).

The stock of formal jobs, which represents the number of this type of job currently in the country, reached 42,770,781 in February, compared to 42,527,722 in the previous month.

In the month, the number of unemployment insurance requests had a slight decrease compared to that registered in January – it went to 557.8 thousand in February, coming from 614.1 thousand requests. Seasonal factors also influence this result, in February last year, this number was 550.3 thousand requests.
