The Chinese press woke up with images of the first commercial flight of the C919, an aircraft developed by Comac to compete with the European Airbus and the American Boeing. The China Eastern Airlines plane departed at 10:32 am from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Beijing Capital International Airport.
Under the same headline “Decolar!”, on the website of the Huangiu tabloid, the Chinese version of the Global Times, from Beijing, and on the Guancha portal, from Shanghai, both with videos generated by the state-owned CCTV network (image below), the plane transported about of 130 passengers for two and a half hours. In later utterances, “It arrives without problems”.
Beijing’s Xin Jing Bao (Beijing News) made headlines with videos of its own. He showed his reporter with his ticket when boarding, then on the runway and waving the Chinese flag at the plane’s door —and in the end, live from inside the cabin, the journalist broadcast the plane already taxiing in the Chinese capital, the applause when he stopped, interviewed passengers and crew, until disembarking.
In the words of Pengpai Xinwen (The Paper), from Shanghai, “before the C919, the global market was dominated by Airbus and Boeing, now they have been challenged: in addition to A (Airbus) and B (Boeing), now there is C (Comac )”.
