Businessmen go to Brasilia to defend industry patents – 05/06/2023 – Panel SA

Businessmen don’t like to be seen in Brasília, but next week, a hundred of them will meet with federal deputy Julio Lopes (PP-RJ) and senator Izalci Lucas (PSDB-DF) to ask the Senate to unblock the law modernizing the registration of trademarks and patents.

Lopes is the leader of the Parliamentary Intellectual Property Front. Izalci is on the Commission for Science, Technology, Innovation, Communication and Informatics, which is analyzing the project that is now stalled in the Senate.

The text seeks to adapt Brazilian legislation to the Madrid Protocol (an international treaty that allows the filing and registration of trademarks in more than 120 countries).

The idea of ​​the business community is, through parliamentarians, to maintain pressure on Congress, given the demand from the productive sector, to facilitate the registration and guarantee the protection of patents, mainly in the health and agro sectors.

The debate is promoted by LIDE, founded by the former governor of SP, João Doria. Also participating in the meeting are the secretary of Competitiveness and Regulation of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Andrea Macera, the president of the National Institute of Industrial Property (Inpi), Julio César Moreira, the president of Embrapa, Silvia Maria Fonseca Silveira Massruhá, in addition to Cláudio Lottenberg (Albert Einstein Hospital), José Eduardo Cardozo (former Minister of Justice) and Gesner Oliveira (FGV).
