Business of the Forest Incubator receives certification and expands biobusiness in the Amazon

Manaus (AM) – The only one in the North Region with national certification, the Business of the Forest Incubator, from the Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS), advances in training and structuring innovative solutions for enterprises in the Amazonian bioeconomy.

The incubator now has one more certification from the Reference Center for Supporting New Enterprises (Cerne), CERNE II, which allows, among other strategic actions, the expansion of services in urban areas, indigenous and riverside communities for the development of innovative ventures in the Amazon.

The certification is granted by the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Enterprises (Anprotec), in partnership with the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae).

The incubator contributes to the growth and longevity of Amazonian community enterprises, enabling access to financial resources, such as credit and impact investment, in addition to offering services such as entrepreneurial training, specialized technical consulting, mentoring and market access.

After having its management method with processes and key practices recognized and validated by Anprotec, at CERNE I, now, with the new certification, the FAS incubator consolidates its strategic management, expands its limits and services to the target public, demonstrating its capacity to promote socioeconomic impacts.

“I believe that the incubator consolidates a management model that grants maturity in generating innovative ventures in the Amazon; competence and authority to actively participate in the entrepreneurial ecosystem with the network of local and national actors; in addition to the pioneering recognition for being the first organization of Brazilian civil society that has an innovation environment (incubator) with this CERNE I and II certification”,

says the manager of the Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Business Program in the Amazon (Pensa), Wildney Mourão.

Currently, the incubator serves six businesses: Fábrica de Cacau, in Comunidade do Verdum; Fisggar, fishing tourism platform; Sumimi Restaurant, located in the Três Unidos community; EBC Bauana, in the Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve; Ribeirinha flour packer, located in Campo Novo; and Pousada do Garrido, a graduated enterprise, that is, one that gained maturity in management with the support of the forest incubator.

In 2022, the Incubator was responsible for promoting 15% of the incubated enterprises in the North region of Brazil, generating revenues of BRL 850,000.

Partnership

Created in 2013, the incubator was born out of a partnership between FAS, the National Institute for Research in the Amazon (Inpa), the Incubation and Business Development Center (Cide) and the Research Support Foundation of the State of Amazonas (Fapeam). In 2023, the FAS incubator completes 10 years of existence and has the support of Fapeam, through the “Pró-Incubadoras Notice 010/2019” program.

The director-president of Fapeam, Márcia Perales Mendes Silva, highlighted that the Support Program for Incubators (Pro-Incubators) is one of Fapeam’s public notices that meets the line of action of technology-based entrepreneurship and the consolidation of the innovation ecosystem.

We want all incubators to continue to have the support of the State Government, because they effectively contribute to the development of our state through the biobusinesses they foster”,

he said.

Pró-Incubadoras supports the structuring, development and interaction of new and existing business incubators, so that they are aligned with the Model of Reference Centers for Supporting New Enterprises (Cerne), thus contributing to increase the number and quality of innovative ventures in the state.

SAP Brasil is another partner of the business incubator, since 2017, which guarantees financial support and mentoring to entrepreneurs in the region.

The Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS) is a non-profit civil society organization that works for the sustainable development of the Amazon through programs and projects in the areas of education and citizenship, health, empowerment, research and innovation, environmental conservation, community infrastructure, entrepreneurship and income generation.
