BTS’s J-Hope revisits his inspirations on the streets of New York alongside J. Cole in the MV for ‘on the street’; look

South Korean rapper J-Hope, from BTS, released this Friday, in partnership with American J. Cole, the music video for the song “on the street”. He had made the launch announcement on Sunday, shortly after communicating that he had started the procedures to enlist in the South Korean armed forces. Military service is obligatory in the country for all able-bodied men. The novelty was thought of as a gift to the armys, as the group’s fans are called, who are already missing Jin, the eldest, already in the Army.

In an interview with Variety magazine, J-Hope stated that “on the street” is the single that “opens a door” to his “next chapter”.

— I wanted to share new music as a gift to all my fans. The song includes lyrics that say, “To reward you even from afar, like a butterfly.” The message I want to convey is that like a butterfly, with a flutter of wings, I hope to reach as many people as possible, giving them strength and comfort.

The rapper, who participated in the composition of the song and the creation of the lyrics, explained that “street” for him is a word that has a special meaning, as it reminds him of “street dancing”, his “roots as an artist”. In addition, he was already a well-known admirer of J. Cole, which made the recording even more remarkable in his career.

— It’s where my inspirations come from and symbolizes the path I’ve taken as j-hope. It is also where I learn life lessons,” he added.

— For me, the street is a place where we can really meet and feel people’s real lives: the innocent mind of a child; first meeting someone and falling in love; someone in an urgent moment; a fight; an avoidable separation, etc. The street is a metaphor for life. I did my best to convey all of that in music and wanted to share hope and courage with those walking through their lives.
