Bridgestone will stop producing passenger car tires at its factory in Santo André, in Greater São Paulo. The company confirmed the layoffs of 600 of its 3,400 employees.
According to the brand, the objective is to concentrate on the site only the manufacture of tires for trucks, tractors and off-road, in addition to the Firestone Airide —which are pneumatic springs.
The production of tires for passenger cars and light trucks will be carried out at the brand’s factory in Bahia. The company did not say whether the unit will hire.
In a note, Bridgestone confirmed the restructuring.
“This decision is part of an ongoing process of evaluating the business and the market, to ensure the company’s competitiveness and determine the best allocation of resources, optimizing the portfolio, processes and culture to continue serving the needs of the consumer and market,” he said. .
As for the dismissals, the company stated that “it is working with the union and its employees on opportunities to reduce the impact of this decision on the affected line team”.
