Global Brazilian companies, with operations in several countries and continents, manifested, this Thursday, that they plan to expand their operations in Kazakhstan. With the presence of dozens of government leaders who work in the area of economic development in the Central Asian country, executives who represent groups abroad such as Tramontina, from Rio Grande do Sul, and WEG, from Santa Catarina, provided an overview of operations in Kazakhstan. and projects to expand its operations.
For now, the initiatives involve the expansion of representative offices and services in Kazakhstan, as is the case with WEG, which presented its broad portfolio in the energy area, which includes engines and even equipment for wind power generation.
Tramontina sent its head of sales abroad, Sergey Chulnov, who works in Riga, Latvia, and went to Kazakhstan to participate in the event. The company wants to expand the portfolio of products sold in the Central Asian country, going beyond the cutlery line and also including items for gardening. A parallel meeting brought together possible local players who could help distribute Tramontina’s products.
In addition to WEG and Tramontina, Embraer also participated in the meeting with regional sales director Vadims Fokins, who operates in the Netherlands. The Brazilian giant was provoked by members of the Kazakh government to analyze possible ways to grow in the country. The aircraft manufacturer, from São José dos Campos, already operates in Kazakhstan, having aircraft that are part of the Astana Airlines fleet and operate on regional flights in the country.
Remotely, from Brazil, the president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (Fiesc), Mario Cezar de Aguiar, and Mauro Bellini, executive of Marcopolo – the bus manufacturer from Caxias do Sul was also instigated assessing competitive advantages for installing a unit in Kazakhstan.
The meeting was organized by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and QazIndustry, equivalent to CNI in Kazakhstan. In addition to the official meeting, attended by more than 40 people, there were also occasional parallel meetings, so that demands were met with more specificity, and also for the promotion of trade between Brazil and Kazakhstan, in order to facilitate the increase in foreign trade between the two countries.
In some cases, it was not possible to close deals, such as the supply of raw materials for the fertilizer industry in Brazil. Production in Kazakhstan is still in its infancy, although the country has large underground reserves. It would be necessary to close partnerships with foreign groups that operate in Kazakhstan and, with experience and technology, accelerate production.
Another challenge is logistical. In this regard, Andrey Kokoulin, WEG’s head of distribution that operates in Almati, the largest city in Kazakhstan, suggested the organization of partnerships to reduce costs and logistical obstacles, noting that goods take 45 days to go from Brazil to Kazakhstan.
Another topic that will continue to be worked on is the operation of a Brazilian company interested in installing a plant to process sugarcane, an item that had already been mentioned in Kazakhstan’s agenda.
