Brazilians spend up to R$400 per month on beer, reveals research

Beer continues to be one of the most popular drinks among Brazilians. This is what the third edition of the 2022 Portraits of Beer Consumers survey reveals, carried out by the Surra de Lúpulo podcast. According to the study, 85% of respondents consume both the traditional version and the handmade option and in this group the monthly expenditure on the drink is between R$ 201 and R$ 400 per month.
The survey had 4,388 respondents from all states in Brazil and sought to provoke reflections to collaborate with decision-making in the national brewing segment. In its conclusion, the study points out that the brewery sector “has been demonstrating quantitative and qualitative evolution and resilience to internal and external crises”.
When deciding which product to buy, factors such as style, cost-effectiveness, price and recommendations from friends influence the choice. The preferred places to buy are bars and specialized stores, followed by supermarkets. The research also points out that most drink consumers are concentrated in the Southeast, followed by the Northeast.
In addition, the average spending on beer by the group that drinks both types is between R$201 and R$400 per month, while 29.82% of those who only drink the common version spend up to R$100.
Market that moves billions
Another survey, the 2021 Beer Yearbook, points out that the brewing sector moves more than R$ 77 billion per year and generates about two million direct jobs in Brazil.
Even losing a percentage in the average income of Brazilians, as pointed out by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea), data on the production of alcoholic beverages in Brazil show growth in the annual comparison.
In an interview with the press, Carla Crippa, vice-president of corporate affairs at Ambev and Sindicerv, points out that the country is the third largest beer producer in the world, behind only China and the USA.
