A FecomercioSP survey reveals that the tourism sector took off driven, who would say, by the good performance of airlines, which returned to taking passengers from bus companies.
In May, tourism sector revenues closed at R$ 18.2 billion. Of this total, R$5.8 billion was concentrated on airlines and R$2.9 billion on land transport companies. Another BRL 5.2 billion came from hotel chains and the difference (BRL 4.3 billion) was handled by other links in the chain.
In total, there was a 7.1% growth in total sector revenues compared to the same period in 2022.
According to FecomercioSP, there are already 26 consecutive months of positive changes in tourism. Data were compiled based on information from IBGE and industry associations.
Air transport was the main advance vector. Revenues in May (BRL 5.8 billion) increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2022.
According to the report, companies benefited from the increase in the number of passengers (the highest since 2019) and the reduction in the average fare (about R$ 150 in a year).
According to the FecomercioSP Tourism Board, the trend is for improvement in the coming months, with a more favorable scenario for investment by companies, driven by relatively cheaper fuel and the dollar.
On the other hand, land transport companies had the lowest change in the month, recording growth of 0.8%.
With a turnover of BRL 2.9 billion, they again lost the space gained in the pandemic by taking passengers from airlines.
The hotel sector had the second highest billing of the month (R$ 5.2 billion), an increase of 6.4%.
