Ana Luisa, 18 years old, was one of the winners of the competition, taking home two prizes. One of them was placing seventh in the overall classification, which awarded 11 male and female dancers from around the world. In an interview with RFI, Ana Luisa gave details about the rewards. “I won the prize for best contemporary in the competition and also won the seventh scholarship (scholarship), which means that I will be entitled to sponsors that will help me with my future in dance”, he said. “Probably, this year, I will live abroad to start my career and have a job at a company”, he said. Ana Luisa’s history with dance began early in childhood. “When I was around 3 years old, I asked my mother to put me in ballet classes because I was showing a certain interest”, she recalls. “At 3 I started and, at 5, I entered Basileu França”, adds the goian ballerina. Basileu França is the school located in Goiânia (GO), where she still practices ballet. Ana Luisa’s teacher and dance coordinator at the institution, Simone Malta explained to RFI what this victory means. For ten years, Simone has been coming to the Prix de Lausanne to accompany her selected students. “It was the certainty that we are doing a job of professionalization and that, thanks to the government of the state of Goiás, which has been investing in professional education, it is working. This is very important for the state and for Brazil. It means that we are, yes, equal to the great schools of Europe and America”. Simone has been coming to the Prix since 2013. The first time she was in the Swiss city was with Adhonay Soares, who was that year’s winner. “I must have brought around 15 dancers over these ten years”, says the coordinator. Ana Botafogo and Tatiana Leskova lament the situation of dancers in the pandemic “I couldn’t be happier” Fifteen years after starting in ballet, Ana Luisa was in Switzerland to participate, for the second time, in the Prix de Lausanne. But how did it get here? To RFI, she told a little about the difficulties. The young woman recognizes that it was not easy, as she had to give up many things, such as going out more often with her friends, but she thinks it was worth it. “All these years have taken a lot of dedication and a lot of effort. I had to give up many things, because there were many hours of rehearsals and classes to be able to reach where we, dancers, dreamed so much”, she says. Ana Luisa says that when she heard her name announced on stage as one of the winners, she felt mixed emotions. “Mainly happiness, the realization of a dream. It was all very incredible and kind of unbelievable. I couldn’t be happier”, she reports. The first time she was at the Prix, in 2020, the young woman won a full scholarship of two years at the Royal Ballet, in London, considered one of the best dance schools in the world. Now, it has taken home two more prizes. The Prix de Lausanne is completing 50 years this year. Since 1973, when it was created, more than a thousand dancers received financial aid. The competition crowned more than 450 winners and hundreds of scholarships were offered to young people from all over the world. Brazil stands out in the “Ballet World Cup” It is not new that representatives of Brazil appear on the list of winners. In this “World Cup”, the country has also been among the best on the planet. Last year, for example, Luciana Sagioro and Miguel Oliveira were the two representatives on the list of winners. They won scholarships to study at renowned schools. international dance companies and companies.
