The Atlas of Irrigation, by the National Water Agency (ANA), foresees the incorporation of 4.2 million hectares of irrigated area by 2040 in the country. According to a study by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), among the potential benefits of irrigation are the increase in productivity of the order of two to three times compared to rainfed agriculture, that is, regions that face reduced rainfall throughout the year ; the reduction of the unit cost of production; year-round land use with up to three harvests; and the increase in the supply and regularity of food and other agricultural products. In Ribeirão Preto (SP), where one of the largest technology fairs for agribusiness in the world takes place, Agrishow, rural producers can learn about different innovations in crop irrigation management. g1 spoke with some exhibitors at the fair and now shows what is available in the market with a focus on sustainability and productivity and that can help expand the irrigated area in the country in the coming years. Control in the palm of your hand With the aim of making irrigated agriculture more digital and sustainable, Bauer, through the startup Irricontrol, presents a platform capable of carrying out all the telemetry of the irrigation system. “You can monitor and automate from the first drop that you are taking from the capture until the fact that it is delivered to the pivot, so you have automation and remote management”, says Luiz Roque, CEO of Irricontrol and co-CEO of Bauer. Irrigated crops with Irricontrol equipment Disclosure All of this technology is carried out via radio infrastructure and, therefore, the entire farm is covered with its own network. The system also provides information on energy consumption by equipment. The platform allows the farmer the ease of operation in the field through a device in the palm of the hand. “You can turn it on, off, choose the best time to start irrigating. It lets you control irrigation from wherever you are,” explains Roque. The system is suitable for any type of center pivot at a cost of BRL 35,000 per pivot, regardless of the size of the area. Agroclimatic information Zeus is a platform with real-time agroclimatic information. Through stations installed close to rural properties, it brings information on rain, temperature, humidity, wind and all of this generates a water balance report. “What he will show the rural producer is the history of water storage on his property by plot, to make the best decision. Is the time to cultivate the most appropriate? Is it possible to delay or advance the harvest? Is it necessary to work with a cultivar that is more resistant to water stress? So all the information generated by Zeus helps the farmer make the best decision to understand if he planted in the best way possible, based on agroclimatic data”, explains Carlos Silva Neto, technical sales representative of Zeus Agrotech. Through these data, the rural producer will know whether or not he needs to enter a closer irrigation depth. He also understands the best time to irrigate and the correct amount needed to grow it. Today, Zeus has around 4,500 stations spread from North to South of Brazil, which serve all types of culture. There are more than a thousand customers who already use the platform to facilitate the decision at the time of irrigation. Improved Irrigation Management Lindsay introduces Fieldnet and Fieldnet Advisor. Fieldnet is the communication between the pivot and the platform. He manages to tell the farmer what position the pivot is in, how long he has been irrigating, how long it will take to complete the circle and time control. Irrigation and energy economics Valley features a pivot ecosystem that applies water to the crop in the right amount at the right time. Commercial director Vinícius Melo says that a kind of toolbox is placed on the pivot, that is, a system of thermal cameras that capture information from the field and it becomes the scanner of the crop. So this system georeferences all the data. “Valley Scheduling is the platform that receives all this information and programs the quantity and need for the next five days of irrigation. So the thought is always on saving resources and boosting the farmer’s earnings, explains Melo. The savings vary according to each situation, taking into account water and energy. “The price of energy is reduced during the green tariff hours, so if the producer manages to irrigate a larger amount of water during that time when energy is cheaper, he saves financial resources.
