Brazil generates more than 190 thousand jobs with a formal contract in October 2023

In October, Brazil created 190,366 formal jobs. As a result, throughout the year, there is a positive balance of 1,784,695 new vacancies in all units of the Federation in four of the five economic groups that make up the survey. The exception was Agriculture, which had a negative balance.

The numbers appear in the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged), released this Tuesday (28) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE).

Sectors

The positive balance for October results from the 1,941,281 admissions and 1,750,915 dismissals recorded in the month. According to the MTE, the majority of formal jobs were created in the Services (109,939) and Commerce (49,647) sectors.

With the accumulated result for the year, the total stock recovered for Caged was 44,229,120 formal jobs.

“The biggest growth in formal employment in October occurred in the Services sector, with a balance of 109,939 jobs, with emphasis on Information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative activities, which had a positive balance of 65,128 jobs”,

informed the ministry in a note.

Also according to the ministry, the second largest generation was observed in the Commerce sector, with 49,647 jobs created in the month, “mainly in the retail trade of goods, with a predominance of supermarkets (positive balance of 6,307 jobs) and hypermarkets (1,925), in addition to clothing items (5,026)”, adds the study.

The third biggest growth recorded was in Industry: a positive balance of 20,954 new jobs with a formal contract. The biggest highlight was the raw sugar manufacturing sector (1.5 thousand) and furniture manufacturing, with a balance of 1,330. Civil Construction had a positive balance of 11,480 jobs.

Negative balance

The only sector that recorded a negative balance was Agriculture, with 1,656 jobs lost in the month. “It is a small, but negative balance, the result of the collection of products such as coffee, among others”, assessed the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, in an interview with the press.

According to the MTE, this result is due to the demobilization of coffee (-2,850), the cultivation of garlic (-1,677), the cultivation of potatoes (-1,233) and onions (-1,138) which surpassed the increase in production activities of seeds (4,088).

São Paulo was the state that had the highest balance of formal jobs. Most of the 69,442 thousand new jobs are concentrated in the services sector, which had a positive balance of 44,112 new jobs. In Rio de Janeiro, 18,803 new jobs were created, while in Paraná, the positive balance was 14,945 jobs.

São Paulo is also the state with the highest number of new jobs in the year, with a total of 502,193 new hires. Next comes Minas Gerais, with 187,485 new positions and Rio de Janeiro (141,981 formal vacancies).

“The greatest growth in formal employment in the year to date occurred in the Services sector, which generated 976,511 jobs until October (54.4% of the balance), with emphasis on Information, communication and financial activities, real estate, professional and administrative activities (355,869), and for the activities of public administration, defense, social security, education, human health and social services (312,552)”,

detailed the survey.

In Civil Construction, 253,876 jobs were created, with emphasis on infrastructure works (86,099). The industry presents, throughout the year, a positive balance of 251.11 new jobs, with emphasis on the manufacture of food products (81,523).

Commerce generated 193,526 new formal vacancies, with emphasis on the supermarket sector (17,491), minimarkets (12,207) and pharmaceutical products (12,684); and Agriculture generated 109,698 jobs, with highlights being the cultivation of soybeans (15,870), sugar cane (15,475) and oranges (7,949).

Taking population groups as a cut-off, Caged found a positive balance in October for both women (90,696 vacancies created). as for men (99,671). Of the total vacancies created in the month, 110,240 were for people declared as mixed race; 64,660 white; 22,300 declared black; 15,395 are yellow and 652 are declared indigenous. 1,699 new jobs were also created for people with disabilities.
