Brazil creates 2.03 million formal jobs in 2022, 26% less than the previous year

According to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed, this represents a drop of 26.6% less than in 2021 (+2.77 million vacancies). In 2020, during the most acute phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, 192 thousand vacancies with a formal contract were closed. Comparison of numbers with years prior to 2020, according to analysts, is no longer adequate because the government has changed the methodology. At the end of 2022, still according to official data, Brazil had a balance of 42.71 million jobs with a formal contract. The result represents a drop compared to November last year (43.14 million) and an increase against December 2021 (40.67 million). Official figures show that, in December of last year alone, dismissals surpassed hiring by 431,011 formal vacancies.
