Five new cases of avian flu were reported by Mapa (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock) this Thursday (8). In all, Brazil has reached 30 cases of the disease, all in wild birds. There are still six cases under investigation. The information is available on the platform created by the ministry to monitor outbreaks of the virus.
According to the Map, the site can be consulted by anyone and will be updated twice a day, at 1 pm and 7 pm. “As necessary, the Map will continue to improve the tool to facilitate access to information for the entire Brazilian population”, says the agency.
The suspicion of the disease, explains the platform, can be discarded based on the clinical-epidemiological evaluation carried out by the official veterinarian, ending the investigation without the need to collect samples for laboratory diagnosis.
The federal government claims that Brazil remains free of avian influenza in commercial breeding and maintains its disease-free status with the World Organization for Animal Health, exporting its products for safe consumption.
The ministry continues to warn the population not to collect birds that they find sick or dead and to activate the nearest veterinary service to prevent the disease from spreading.
This week, the federal government announced an extraordinary credit of R$ 200 million to Mapa to fight avian flu in the country.
Brazil is still in a state of zoosanitary emergency, which makes it possible to mobilize funds from the Union and to articulate with other ministries, governmental and non-governmental organizations and the suspension of bird exhibition fairs. For the consumer, there is no change so far.
