Later this month, the first industrial line for the production of tiles and thermal insulation panels in Rio Grande do Sul will start operating. With an investment of R$ 80 million in two years – of which R$ 30 million in 2023 – between the infrastructure and the acquisition of Italian machinery, also unprecedented in the State, Brastelha built the new industrial plant in an area of 6 thousand meters squares on the banks of RS-135, in Erechim.
But the land, at the exit of the municipality in the north of the state towards Passo Fundo, and which is the result of a mobilization of businessmen in the region for the expansion of the industrial district of Erechim, will still undergo transformations in the coming months. As of this year, another R$ 50 million will be invested so that, by the end of the first half of 2024, Brastelha will have all its four units currently spread across areas of the municipality’s Industrial District, centralized together with the new industry, with the prospect of 15 thousand square meters built.
“Due to the advance of production and the unavailability of areas, historically, our processes ended up scattered throughout the city, and this represents a lot of cost in production and in our logistics. It is an investment that will represent savings for the company”, explains the company’s director, Walmir Badalotti.
It is estimated that 10% of the cost will be reduced with this transfer. Brastelha’s revenue differential for the coming years, bets the director, is on its new plant. When fully operational, in three shifts, probably from the beginning of 2024, the factory will have the capacity to produce 200,000 square meters of tiles and panels per month, generating 150 new jobs in Erechim.
“It is double our current production capacity, and with a differentiated product, which is a requirement of the large civil construction market, with the advancement of fire prevention projects, for example”, explains Badalotti.
It refers to thermal insulation tiles, which are especially applied to large convention centers, shopping malls, large markets or industrial plants. And there is also the refrigeration market opening up to Brastelha. Thermal insulation panels are used in cold rooms in markets and refrigerators, for example.
According to Walmir Badalotti, this is a new market for the company and which is currently dominated by producers from other states. No wonder, the investment made in Erechim almost did not migrate to Santa Catarina.
“We received an offer for an area, incentives and facilities that we don’t find in Rio Grande do Sul today. Staying and investing here is our conviction and a demonstration of confidence. The state government has informed that it will grant incentives similar to those found in the neighboring state. we trust that”, says the entrepreneur.
The advance to the thermal insulation line, according to Badalotti, meets the requirements of a market that is currently led by Brastelha in the South Region of Brazil, in its current tile mix. With 250 employees, which include operations in Lucas do Rio Verde and Sorriso, in Mato Grosso, the company has a processing capacity of up to 2,500 tons of steel per month.
