Workers born in February can join the birthday withdrawal of the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) from this Wednesday (1st) to receive the amounts still in 2023. The modality allows the beneficiary to annually withdraw a portion of the deposited resources. THE value varies according to the total accumulated by the worker in the active and inactive accounts in the Fund (see the table at the end).

According to the rules of the system, managed by Caixa Econômica Federal, joining the modality can be done at any time, but for the amounts to be released in the current year, the holder needs to register until the last day of the birthday month.

Withdrawals can be made from the first working day of the birthday month and up to two months after the month of birth. That is: those born in February receive the amounts from the 1st to the 30th of April.

Release is not automatic. Anyone who wants to opt for the birthday withdrawal must do membership through the FGTS applicationusing the CPF number and the registered password. Interested parties should click “FGTS birthday withdrawal“. You must read and agree to the terms and conditions and click “Opt for the birthday withdrawal“.

Based on the worker’s current FGTS balance, the application also allows you to simulate how much you will receive. When clicking on “More”, at the bottom of the screen, the option “Birthday loan loan simulator” appears.

The option for this birthday withdrawal system is not mandatory. The modality, created by Law 13.932/2019, starting in April 2020, is an alternative to withdrawal-termination (the one that the worker does in case of retirement, purchase or amortization of the home or serious illness).

Those who adhere to the birthday withdrawal lose the right to withdraw the total balance of their FGTS account upon being fired, even if without just cause. Therefore, if dismissed, only receive a termination fine of 40% on top of the amount deposited by the employer.

In case of withdrawal from membership of the anniversary-withdrawal, migration to the old mode (withdrawal-termination) is only carried out two years after the date of membership. For example: a person who opts for the anniversary withdrawal in January 2023 and then regrets it will only be able to return to the termination withdrawal in February 2025.

What is the value of the birthday withdrawal?

The amount released every year for those who migrate to the anniversary withdrawal depends on the sum of their accounts in the Guarantee Fund (for those who have more than one). There are seven pay ranges.

The birthday withdrawal allows the redemption of 50% of the fund (for those who have up to R$ 500 in the account) up to 5% plus a fixed additional (for those who have more than R$ 20,000). That is, the percentage drops as the amount of money deposited in the account increases.
