Bolsonaro uses Tarcísio’s event to wave to agro – 05/01/2023 – Politics

Main character of an imbroglio that culminated in the cancellation of the opening ceremony of the main agricultural technology fair in Latin America, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) circumvented the cancellation of the act and used an event of the Government of São Paulo, commanded by his ally Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), to address the ruralists present at the Agrishow, in Ribeirão Preto (313 km from São Paulo).

The organization of the fair announced Saturday (29) the cancellation of the traditional opening ceremony after the controversy involving the “disinvitation” of Minister Carlos Fávaro (Agriculture) so that he would not attend the act, which would have the presence of Bolsonaro.

This occurred in a conversation between the minister and the president of the fair, Francisco Matturro, which triggered a crisis that culminated in the threat of the Lula government that Banco do Brasil cancel its sponsorship of the fair.

Even without an official ceremony, Bolsonaro –on his first trip across the country after returning from a three-month period in the United States– kept to his schedule and landed in Ribeirão just before 2 pm this Sunday (30), when he was welcomed by a crowd at the airport. .

After greeting supporters, he climbed into the back of a pickup truck and drove about 18 kilometers to the farm of ruralist Paulo Junqueira, who was responsible for inviting Bolsonaro to visit the agricultural fair.

This Monday (1st), he arrived at Agrishow just before 11 am, with a tight security system, and entered the São Paulo government auditorium on the farm that houses the agricultural fair to say that agribusiness “needs politicians who don’t disturb” the sector.

“That’s what I did throughout my term, with my ministers”, and went on to criticize the homologations of indigenous lands signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), whom he called a “citizen who is in the Palace”.

“You should know that there are 400 requests for the demarcation of indigenous lands and at least 3,500 from quilombolas. And that guy said he would do his best to meet the wishes of the communities. If 10% are met, where will our agro go? I ask God for this not to happen,” said Bolsonaro, who spoke for seven minutes and was hailed several times as a “myth”.

Tarcísio began his speech by greeting Bolsonaro and said that “it is no mystery to anyone the gratitude” he has for the former president, who was introduced as “president” at the ceremony.

“He always brought laurels to his team, he always gave credit to those who accompanied him”, said the governor.

The governor also said that he will not tolerate land invasions in São Paulo and that he will invest in connectivity to eliminate shadow zones for telephone signals throughout the state, as he had already done on Saturday (29) at Expozebu, in Uberaba.

At the end of the event, Bolsonaro and Tarcísio, accompanied by Senator Marcos Pontes (PL), by ruralists and by deputies, walked through the streets of Agrishow, getting on machines and tractors. In one of them, Bolsonaro opened a flag and supporters began to sing the national anthem.

Junqueira said on Sunday that he did not see a problem with not having a formal opening act and that the “fair will be open”, in allusion to the opening of the gates for visits by rural producers.

Agrishow’s forecast for this year is to negotiate more than the R$ 11.243 billion registered in 2022 in sales of agricultural, irrigation and storage machines (R$ 11.77 billion, in inflation-adjusted values).

The fair will have 800 national and foreign brands exhibited in an area of ​​530 thousand square meters, where the producer will be able to compare the machines of the most varied companies, see the operation in the field demonstrations and finance in his bank within the event itself. 190 thousand visitors are expected until Friday (5).

The Agrishow will be held at km 321 of the Antônio Duarte Nogueira highway, in Ribeirão Preto, from 9 am to 6 pm.
