Boeing to hire 10,000 employees in 2023 to increase production

The company expanded its workforce by around 14,000 employees in 2022, reaching 156,000. In the United States, Boeing employs approximately 136,000 workers. The company said, however, that it will make layoffs in “support areas”, but did not reveal how many. Most of the hires will take place at Boeing business units, including engineering and production, to meet growing demand from airlines. Boeing plans to increase deliveries of the 737 MAX jet from 374 units in 2022 to between 400 and 450 this year. Deliveries of the 787 aircraft are expected to total between 70 and 80 units. European rival Airbus said this week it plans to hire 13,000 staff this year, most of them in Europe. Before the pandemic, at the end of 2019, Boeing employed 161,000 people. That number has fallen to about 141,000 in 2020. “Hiring is no longer a constraint,” Boeing Chief Executive Dave Calhoun told analysts on Wednesday.
