BNDES and Eneva earmark BRL 8.9 million for ecological restoration in the Amazon

Manaus (AM) – The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and Eneva launched this Wednesday (5), in Manaus, a public notice that will provide up to R$ 8.9 million in resources to encourage ecological restoration in the Amazon.

The initiative is part of the Floresta Viva program, which invests in ecological restoration and preservation of Brazilian biodiversity using resources from the BNDES Socio-environmental Fund, with the support of partner institutions such as Eneva, an integrated energy operator that operates in exploration and production (E&P ) of natural gas and the provision of energy solutions.

The public notice will be conducted and operated by FUNBIO, a civil society organization of public interest (OSCIP) that manages Floresta Viva. It plans to support up to two proposals that result in the recovery of an area of ​​up to 400 hectares, inside and around ten environmental conservation units located in the Amazon territory.

The clipping includes four Environmental Protection Areas (APAs), one Forest, two State Parks and three Sustainable Development Reserves, highly priority areas for forest recovery in the Amazon. All conservation units contemplated in the notice are managed by the Amazonas State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema), which contributed with the technical analysis of the project.

The selected projects must implement ecological restoration actions and strengthen the restoration production chain. Resources will be invested in biodiversity conservation, with a view to improving environmental quality and reducing social and regional inequalities. The period for execution of proposals is up to 48 months.

The announcement is aimed at non-profit institutions, such as civil associations, private foundations and cooperatives in any degree of constitution. To participate, interested parties must send their proposals by September 4, 2023, using the electronic form available on the website:

BNDES Socio-Environmental Director, Tereza Campello, assesses that “the announcement will contribute to the recovery of conservation units and their biodiversity in the State of Amazonas”. She points out that Floresta Viva “is one of the largest ongoing ecological restoration initiatives in our country, which dialogues with public policies and promotes the generation of jobs and income, as it impacts the entire restoration sector”.

said Eneva’s director of ESG, Health & Safety & Communication, Anita Baggio.

According to FUNBIO’s general secretary, Rosa Lemos de Sá, “restoration inside and around conservation units with support from Floresta Viva is an important step towards maintaining biodiversity in the region. And the creation of ecological corridors, which will connect areas that are currently fragmented, is central to the movement of animals, the dispersal of seeds and, as a result, the health of the forest itself as a whole,” she explained.
