With the risks of new subvariants of the coronavirus and a possible reflection of Carnival in the number of cases of the disease, some municipal and state health departments have already started applying doses of the bivalent vaccine against Covid.

The national campaign, however, is scheduled for Monday (27). At the opening, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will receive the immunizer.

“We didn’t make any prohibition. So, the state or municipality, receiving the doses, if you want to start the application, it’s released”, says the secretary of Surveillance in Health and Environment, Ethel Maciel. “What we did was coordinate with Conass [Conselho Nacional de Secretários de de Saúde] and Conasems [Conselho Nacional de Secretarias Municipais de Saúde] the start date because it will coincide with the launch of the communication campaign.”

In Amazonas, cases of hospitalization for SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) in the adult population have been on a sustained rise in recent weeks, as pointed out by the latest InfoGripe bulletin. So starting the application could help reduce hospitalizations in the coming days, experts say.

“Vaccine is not medicine. It takes time to stimulate the immune response, so the sooner people in risk groups are vaccinated, the better”, evaluates the researcher and coordinator of the Covid-19 Analysis Network, Isaac Schrarstzhaupt.

The bivalent vaccines will now only be aimed at priority groups, which include the elderly over 60 years of age, pregnant and puerperal women, immunosuppressed people, people with disabilities or living in long-term institutions (ILP), indigenous people, riverside people and quilombolas and health care professionals. health.

The expectation is that 52 million will be vaccinated at this stage. “The definition of the start date of the campaign also took into account this public, which is large. It was necessary to reestablish the contracts for doses and advertisements for the campaign, so all of this was thought out. We also had to consider the time of arrival of the new doses to some municipalities farther from the distribution centers, all this weighed in to start this campaign next Monday”, said Maciel.

According to her, the next stage of vaccination, starting in March, will focus on recovering overdue doses for the entire population over 12 years old.
