Florencia received the title of best sommelier in Latin America. Once again, the highlight is local products. Florencia has a strong relationship with Peruvian beverage producers and makes interesting pairings using the country’s production.

Along with Maido, seven other Peruvian restaurants also appear on the list. The first place in the World 50 Best, Central, cannot be voted. According to the award rules, all houses that receive the top 1 in the world enter the Best of the Best and are no longer eligible.

Mexico leads ranking of award-winning restaurants

Although it has the best restaurant in Latin America and the world, Peru is not the country with the largest number of restaurants awarded in 2023 by Latam 50 Best. This year, this highlight was Mexico – which hosted the awards in 2023. The list includes 11 restaurants in the country. Most of them are in Mexico City, but there are also options in Guadalajara and Cancún, for example.

The best restaurant in the country was Fauna, by chef David Castro Hussong, located in Valle de Guadalupe. In fifth place on the list, Fauna has an uncomplicated kitchen, with à la carte and sharing dishes. It is part of a development that also includes stays and a vineyard.

Brazil, which this year hosted the Latam 50 Best party for the first time, added eight restaurants to the 50 best in the world. Casa do Porco, by Jefferson Rueda and Janaína Torres, came in fourth place, being the best placed in the country. Restaurant Manu, by Curitiba chef Manu Buffara, was the only Brazilian restaurant outside the Rio-São Paulo axis to enter the ranking. The Paraná native rose 11 positions compared to 2022 and, this year, occupied position 35.

Manu also received the title of Sustainable Restaurant in this edition of Latam 50 Best. The individual and special Award is granted by the organizer to restaurants that promote social and environmental sustainability actions in their regions. On the menu, Manu values ​​the use of vegetables and in the kitchen ingredients come from local producers. Also noteworthy is the work carried out in urban gardens and the actions promoted by the Manu Buffara Institute with needy communities in the capital.

In addition to A Casa do Porco and Manu, other Brazilians on the list are: Maní (RJ/34), Evvai (SP/22), Nelita (SP/21), Oteque (RJ/20), Metzi (SP/18) , Lasai (RJ/14). The expectation for next year is that the number of Brazilian winners will increase.
