Belarusian airline wants to fly to Brazil with Soviet jet – 05/22/2023 – Market

The Belarusian airline Rada Airlines, which operates classic Soviet planes such as the Ilyushin IL-62, filed a request with Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) to be qualified to carry out charter flights in the country.

Last year, the same company made a flight in Brazil, when it came to pick up a batch of non-lethal weapons to take to the Democratic Republic of Congo. At the time, information about the arrival of the aircraft and the path of the IL-62 were accompanied by Aeroin.

The request is still being processed by ANAC and may or may not be approved.

More than IL-62

The Ilyushin Il-62 is a Soviet narrow-body (one-aisle, or narrow body) long-range, created in 1960 by the manufacturer Ilyushin. It was the successor to the Il-18 turboprop and had a capacity for almost 200 passengers and crew.

The Il-62 entered commercial service on 15 September 1967 with an inaugural passenger flight from Moscow to Montreal operated by Aeroflot. Throughout history, operators from more than 30 countries have had the Il-62 in their fleets — mostly from the USSR and sympathizers.

This same quad-jet has already been to Brazil by Rada Airlines, in 2019, when it made a technical stop in Recife. In addition, in the 1990s, it was common to see Cubana de Aviación IL-62s at Guarulhos International Airport, which connected São Paulo to Havana.

Successors to the Il-62 include the Il-86 and the wide-body Il-96. Both were manufactured in much smaller quantities and were not widely exported.
