BC employees go on strike and demand benefits given to other bodies

Central Bank employees are planning a 24-hour strike for this Thursday (11) which could lead to a “blackout” in all of the agency’s services, including the dissemination of information, maintenance of Pix systems and impacts on projects in progress, such as digital currency (Drex).

The National Union of BC Employees (Sinal) reported that more than 70% of employees must join the strike, motivated by dissatisfaction with what they consider to be “asymmetrical concessions” offered to other categories of public service. The union highlights benefits approved for IRS auditors and Federal Police employees as examples.

“The strike has as its backdrop the indications of an increase in the already unjustifiable asymmetries in relation to similar careers. The presence of all active colleagues is essential so that we can seek progress, especially within the scope of the specific table with the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services, at the beginning of the year”, said the union in a note.

The strike also targets positions with commissioned functions. Sinal states that the employees have committed to handing over these functions at the beginning of February, if negotiations with the government do not progress. The departure of commissioners could impact the BC’s administrative structure, leaving vacant positions of managers and coordinators essential to authorizing the execution of services.

The union expressed concern about the lack of dialogue and the authoritarian approach of the BC president, Roberto Campos Neto, on relevant issues, such as the Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) for the Independence of the Central Bank. “Alleged authoritarian haste by the president of the BC in addressing relevant issues”, highlighted the union.

Fábio Faiad, president of Sinal, accuses Campos Neto of acting like an “autocrat” when trying to correct salary differences at the top of the body, removing them from the constitutional ceiling. He suggests that dissatisfied directors look for other companies that meet their salary expectations, rather than trying to modify the BC structure.

“There may be new strikes in the coming weeks, in order to intensify the category’s struggle”, pointed out the union. The Central Bank has not yet commented on the strike.

Workers are demanding that the Lula government create a “retribution for institutional productivity”, readjustment of remuneration tables, require higher education for the position of technician and change the name of the position from analyst to auditor.
