Manaus (AM) – The Quilombo of Barranco de São Benedito held the workshop “Do Quilombo se Fez Samba Raiz”, which brought together 127 people, including children, young people and adults, on Saturday morning (4). The project was contemplated by the public notice Manaus Faz Cultura, from the Municipal Foundation of Culture and Events (Manauscult). Quilombo is located on Av. Japurá, 1362 – Praça 14 de Janeiro, South Zone.
The director-president of Concultura, Tenório Telles, commented on the importance of valuing popular culture and announced that in the coming months new public notices will be launched, such as Manaus Faz Cultura 3, the City of Manaus Literary Awards, and, very soon, the edict of the Paulo Gustavo Law.
“I grew up in the Betânia neighborhood and I knew from an early age the importance of popular culture, popular festivals, for artistic making, education and its entire chain of the creative economy”,
Telles pointed out.
The groups were divided into circles with a musician teacher in charge: 15 students on tambourine, 8 hand peals, 15 surdo and banjo, 20 cavaquinho and 15 students. The teachers are members of several traditional groups from the world of samba in Manauara, such as Patecão (Quilombo 14), Bimbo Fonseca, Du Barranco, Rômulo Luiz, Eder Fonseca and JP Sensatez.
Neilo Batista, vice-president of Concultura, spoke about making public notices to promote the category.
“The city hall in this administration is sensitive to culture in its essence, and the Culture Council starts to use the Culture Fund, which was never used, and starts to make public notices to promote culture, using this resource with great responsibility and transparency”,
highlights the vice president.
