Larissa also points out that, with more expensive credit – the basic interest rate is at 13.75% – sales are more timid, and consumers end up opting for rent.

– The sales market as a whole, which includes Rio, has stabilized, while the rental market has been accelerating since the middle of last year. In August 2021, we had the highest level of real estate lending in 20 years, but sales fell due to interest rate effects. The DataZap survey also pointed out the preferences of cariocas when choosing a property. Among those intending to rent, 80% are looking for houses or apartments with an area of ​​up to 100 m², 51.6% prioritize two bedrooms and 55% want a parking space.

Among sales, 58.9% want properties of up to 100 m², 42.6% are looking for options with two bedrooms and 54.6% a parking space.

President of the Union of Real Estate Brokers in Rio (Sindimóveis Rio), Mauro Pimentel advises that – both in the case of renting and purchase – interested parties must have, above all, patience and attention when closing the deal.
