Automakers halt production due to component instability

At least four automakers with plants in Brazil will reduce or temporarily paralyze the production of vehicles due to the instability in the supply of components to avoid the growth of the stock of vehicles.

As informed by Volkswagen to the People’s Gazette, workers at the Taubaté factory are on collective vacation for ten days starting March 17. The stoppage will be due to “maintenance on the unit’s production line and also due to instability in the component supply chain”.

The automaker claims that the other plants in the country, such as São Bernardo do Campo and São Carlos (SP) and São José dos Pinhais (PR), continue to operate normally.

GM told the report that the plant in São José dos Campos (SP) will be paralyzed between March 27 and April 11 for “a temporary adjustment in the production of the Chevrolet S10 pickup and related areas”.

The decision is similar to that adopted by Stelantis, owner of the Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot and Citroën brands. According to information published in the press, the stoppage begins this Wednesday (22nd) in one of the three shifts at the factory in Goiana (PE) until April 10th, and in the three shifts between March 27th and April 6th.

Hyundai also announced a reduction in production at the Piracicaba (SP) factory, according to publications, with workers on collective vacations from Monday (20) until April 2.

Stelantis and Hyundai were approached, but did not respond to requests until the closing of the report.

At the beginning of the year, the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) confirmed the instability in the supply of components and said that strengthening the chain is one of the objectives of conversations with the government, in addition to improving the granting of credit to customers and reduction of production, marketing and tax costs.
