In the description, the page identifies itself as a group of volunteers who try to prevent theft and recover stolen wallets. On social media, the group shares images of alleged thieves. But it was the videos of an Italian woman screaming, with people running through the streets of Venice, that caught the eye. The posts have gone viral in recent months. Despite the success and the flood of memes that the phrase “Attenzione pickpocket!” provoked, the woman who is recorded screaming in the videos made a post asking for caution in the use of her voice. “I find it inappropriate to use my audio for political purposes or people pretending to be pickpockets. I shout to warn citizens and tourists about the movement of people who are part of a criminal organization,” she wrote.
