Manaus (AM) — Casarão da Inovação Cassina opened its doors for the presentation of the show “Cabaré Chinelo”, last Saturday (22), from Ateliê 23, at the closing of the 1st Amazonian Congress of Psychoanalysis. It is the first time that the historic building, which housed the Hotel Cassina during the Belle Époque, has hosted a production about the reality of prostitutes who lived in the era of Rubber. The project denounces an international and sexual trafficking scheme at the beginning of the 20th century, in the capital of Amazonas.
“It is an unprecedented and very relevant moment for the Manaus cultural scene, because it is the first artistic presentation inside what was once the Hotel Cassina, which was the apex and the greatest symbol of political negotiations in the State”,
commented Taciano Soares, director of Ateliê 23.
“The ‘Cabaré Chinelo’ inaugurates the movement to shed light on the true protagonists of this very violent period and makes the voices of these women echo to rescue the history inside the building.”
Taciano Soares, who plays Kafter, is in charge of the show’s general direction, with Argentine director and playwright Jazmín García Sathicq as co-director, and shares the dramaturgy with Eric Lima. He said that the presentation took place from the invitation of the Congress of Psychoanalysis.
“A group of people from Psychoanalysis attended the ‘Cabaré Chinelo’ and saw in it conditions for debates within the area of mental health, where they work. It’s an offshoot of our work,”
explained the director.
“It is interesting to see other fronts raising debates about spectacle beyond the theatrical and historical perspective”.
Adaptation
Eric Lima, the actor who portrays the Devil in the work inspired by Narciso Freitas’ research and also assists in production, musical direction and choreography, highlighted that adaptations were made for the play at Casarão da Inovação Cassina. According to him, in the new space, the dynamics and rhythm are different, as well as the whole organization with acoustics.
“It was exciting for those who were on stage, due to the contact with all the energies of this place and the stories of these women, which are real, where everything really happened a hundred years ago”,
scored the artist.
“It was a presentation to do justice to the souls of these women, these denunciations that we bring are like a historical reparation”, he said.
