The Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, defended this Monday (9) the discussion of reducing weekly working hours without reducing wages when participating in a hearing at the Senate’s Human Rights and Participatory Legislation Committee.
Marinho stated that four-day-a-week working models have already been experimented with by several companies and that he intends to discuss the matter with President Lula (PT).
“I believe it’s time [de discutir nova
regulamentação da jornada]. I didn’t discuss this with President Lula. It’s my opinion, not the government’s. But I am sure that President Lula would not block a debate, in which society demands and Parliament analyzes the possibility of reducing working hours without obviously reducing salaries. I think the Brazilian economy would support it,” he said.
