Andrea Beltrão dreams of a ‘Tapas and Kisses’ film, will play an app driver on TV and stages ‘Antígona’ at the theater

Involved in the recording of one of the next episodes of Globo’s series “Female speeches — Impossible stories”, in which she plays an app driver, Andrea Beltrão is back at Teatro Poeira, in Rio, for a new season of the play “Antígona ”. On stage, she alone enacts more than ten characters from the classic Greek text, written 2,500 years ago. In this interview, the actress states that the show could not be more up-to-date, she also talks about her new work on TV and her desire to make a film with the characters from the series “Tapas & Kisses”.

Why reassemble “Antígona”?

I always loved the text, which I read when I was young. The play deals with human themes, with important issues. It talks about the law, the State, arbitration, a woman who faces everything and everyone to bury her brother. She doesn’t back down even though she knows she will pay with death. There was a moment when I thought: this can’t have been written 2,500 years ago! Many speeches are important today. I brought this tragedy to a place close to us. There, the audience and I are understanding everything that is said.

What will the episode of “Female lines” that you are recording be like?

I play Meire, an app driver who is turning 60 and spends 14 hours in the car. She leads a grueling life. And she uses a character in a wheelchair, made by Zezé Motta. From that encounter, everything changes. The story has something fantastic in the way it is told. It’s very smart.

After Rebeca from “Um Lugar ao Sol”, you went viral on the networks with a video in which you talk about ageism…

I loved playing Rebeca, the text was great. The issue of the 50-something woman who wants to stay free and age well is an important one, but I don’t see men in this debate. What do they do to age well? Why only women have to talk about it?

Speaking of social networks, what is your relationship with them?

I don’t have Instagram, just a profile of the play “Antígona”. I had an account for a while and became addicted, obsessed. I went in to see something and stayed there for hours and a half. I left when I realized that I would be without sleep (laughs).

Scenes from “Tapas & Kisses” are also posted a lot on the web, did you know that?

These days I’ve been watching some episodes on the Viva channel and I had fun. I wanted to make a movie and get that group together again, but I don’t know if it would be feasible.
