Ambar turns 7 in Pinheiros with star fruit beer – 02/24/2023 – Full Glass

In 2016, when it appeared with its exposed brick façade in the heart of Pinheiros, Ambar Cervejas Artesanais was part of a boom of bars whose main reference was special labels.

It was in this rising niche that Julia Fraga, aged just 23, saw a good business opportunity.

“I didn’t have practical experience with bars, restaurants and beers, so I trained myself with a lot of study”, says the businesswoman, who had a degree in market administration and management, but specialized with courses in the area of ​​sommelière and beer production, among others. others. “I planned the project a lot from concept to implementation”, she recalls.

It worked out. Seven years later, the bar on Rua Cunha Gago has established itself as one of the best beer bars (and not just beer) in Pinheiros. In 2018, it was elected the best beer bar by the jury of São Paulo magazine, from Sheet.

One of Ambar’s secrets (or merits) was not relying solely on the beer list, with 15 taps that normally feature national beers. From the beginning, the bar excelled in an above-average pub cuisine, with dishes, snacks and portions — such as the classic tapioca square or jamón croqueta. To drink, it offers drinks tailored for those who are not big fans of hops.

In addition, attentive service has always been its hallmark, with attendants practically teaching consumers how to drink beer, suggesting styles, explaining the differences between one option and another and showing what’s new. All in small tastings right there on the counter.

For Julia, “Ambar’s differential is the climate. It’s a bar designed to receive different people in a light and welcoming way at any time of the day.”

Many of the breweries that existed at that time closed. But Ambar is still going strong after surviving the pandemic. “It was our most difficult moment”, evaluates Fraga. “It required a lot of resilience. Ambar was at its best when the pandemic started and we had to adapt countless times after 2020”, he says.

Ambar not only resisted, but gained a little brother, Tank Brewpub, also in Pinheiros, which has already completed two years and is run by Julia, always alongside partner brewmaster Fabio Comolatti.

Unlike Tank, which produces its own beer, Ambar is a tap house, that is, it does not brew beer on site. But that was never a problem at the bar on Rua Cunha Gago, which has always favored Brazilian craft beers, usually from São Paulo, in its 15 taps.

With the opening of Tank, Ambar expanded the “house beers”. To celebrate seven years, the bar launches Carambar, a refreshing sour made with 60 kg of carambola —beer is available at both places. Habitué brewers and beginners thank you.
