Amazonian singer is confirmed at AFROPUNK festival in Bahia

Artist will be one of the main attractions of one of the biggest black music festivals in the world

Salvador BA) – One of the main black culture festivals in the world, AFROPUNK Bahia released this Tuesday (07/04), some of the attractions that will integrate the third edition of the event, which takes place in Salvador (BA), on November 18 and 19 . Among the main names confirmed is the Amazonian singer Karen Francis, who takes the stage on the second day of the festival, on 11/19.

The festival promotes an ancestral rescue that mixes different genres and generations of music in the same circle. In addition to Karen, other names announced for the event were the duo Tasha and Tracie – inviting Tati Quebra Barraco – and VANDAL. The artists join a line-up that had already confirmed Alcione – inviting the Carioca samba school Mangueira – and the rapper Djonga.

“I am very happy with this invitation. After all, AFROPUNK is a very important event, idealized by black people and attended by these people. This is my community that I always want to connect with, anywhere in the world.”

“More and more I have been at events that have highlighted not only black music, but also afrobeats, which is the style I do. I hope to move everyone who is there with my sound”.

Karen Francis represents contemporary R&B and afrobeats produced in the North of the country. The powerful voice, the sensitive lyric and the musicality that unites roots of black music, African sounds and influences from rap and MPB mark the melodies of the singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, born in Maués, in the interior of Amazonas, and raised in the capital, Manaus .

In her repertoire, Karen Francis has her debut EP “Acontecer” (2018), and its reinterpretation, “Acontecer – Ao Vivo” (2021). In a new career era, she gave a taste of her new album with the release of the singles “Expectativa” (2021), “Confissão” (2022), “Cardume” (2023) and “Se Você Ficar” (2023). The album is expected to hit streaming platforms in 2023.

In 2022, she was also featured in the programming of the Primavera Sound festival, in its first edition in São Paulo, and was announced as one of the selected members of the 2023 class of Black Voices Music/Fundo Vozes Negras, an initiative of YouTube.

After a grand edition held in 2022, with more than 20 hours of music and more than 25,000 people per day, AFROPUNK Bahia is getting ready to hold its acquisition ceremony with even more excitement in 2023. As stated in the governing manifesto the third edition of the festival: “From Brooklyn to Bahia, we will celebrate our community in its different configurations with the same feeling: to rescue the exchanges and affection that were stolen from us”.
