Cellist Karen Carvalho became a national highlight for being part of the band of the worldwide repercussion program “The Voice”, originally from the United States. Born and raised in the capital of Amazonas, Karen began her studies at the age of 15 in the cello class at Liceu de Artes e Ofícios Claudio Santoro, in 2012.
For 8 years, the then student prepared herself with the help of the Liceu teaching team, focusing on realizing the biggest dream she had for her musical career, which was to enter a University in the United States, a feat achieved in 2021, being awarded a full scholarship at Azusa Pacific University in California.
Since the period in which she started living in Los Angeles, Karen has carried out several works in the city, including passing through the Warner Bros studios and later receiving the opportunity to “The Voice”.
The artist then joined the band of the North American program, in an orchestra of string instruments composed of 8 women, whose instruments are four violins, two violas and two cellos, the latter being the instrument that led the Amazonian to occupy the vacancy.
“All this is very incredible for me, I am very grateful to Liceu for providing this without me having to pay anything. They provide us with instruments, scholarship programs, everything so that we can have a quality study at no cost”
said Karen, who said she made a point of playing with the Amazonas Philharmonic at the Christmas Concert, when she came to Manaus in December 2022.
“I wanted to give back a little bit of what the Secretariat of Culture and the Government of Amazonas made possible for me through the Lyceum”
completed the cellist.
The Lyceum of Arts and Crafts Cláudio Santoro is an initiative of the Government of Amazonas through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, which seeks to provide the population with free artistic courses both in the capital and in the interior of the state.
